Comments on: Giving Blood: What to Expect & 5 Benefits of Donating https://bucketlistjourney.net/giving-blood/ Sat, 10 Feb 2024 23:14:15 +0000 hourly 1 By: Taylor Hansen https://bucketlistjourney.net/giving-blood/#comment-776577 Wed, 25 Mar 2020 19:51:07 +0000 https://bucketlistjourney.net/?p=5148#comment-776577 I found it interesting when you said that the first needle is testing the iron levels to see if the person is a good candidate. The kids in our local youth group are doing a blood drive next week and I want to make sure they know what goes into it and how they can be prepared. I’ll be sure to share this information with the group and try to encourage more of the kids to donate.

Kudos to you for actually pushing through your fear and going back to donate again! And it’s fantastic to hear that it went better for you :)

That one had me almost fainting in that lounger and they had the sniffing salts at hand thank goodness, its an awful feeling when you feel you’re about to pass out. I somehow think that anxiety and the anticipation makes it worse but I made it ! So since the previous 2 faintings I feared it and for long didnt go, but also because I had high bp issues, an angiogram and stent , a few operations, various meds and I just felt not stable enough or more the thought that my blood wasnt well enough. But I was proud yesterday after this donation and I now feel I have conquered that fear. Hehehe… I wiggled my toes non stop.

I wish I can conquer this fear because I really wanted to help donate and maybe save a life through that.

At one time, cattle with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovine_spongiform_encephalopathy aka mad cow disease were destroyed and then fed to other animals. This was commonly done in the UK. The assumption is that the DoD purchased European beef and service members ate ‘tainted’ meat.

I want the “Butterfly” needle every time!

I have the “medical exemption” excuse and Number 2. When I have given blood for my own need I am visually impaired and unable to see the needle going in (many people’s biggest fear about the whole experience). I have been told, when getting my first needles as a child, that they were going to use a “Butterfly” needle and this was supposed to make me feel better…the more dainty of the needle choices. Thank you to all who give blood to save lives. People like my brother and myself owe you big time.
