Greek Islands You Need to Visit

1. Sand In Your Toes – Kefalonia

Offering bucket loads of typical Greek charm, Kefalonia is the beach-goer’s dream. With over 30 beaches to choose from, you might choose to take on the waves with water sports and a fun-filled atmosphere on Lourdas beach, or take a short boat ride to Platia Ammos beach where you can seek a quieter spot to soak up the Greek rays in peace. Spend a day away from the sandy stretches, and embrace the island’s culture with a visit to some of the local monasteries and museums. You’ll return sun tanned and cultured. Perfect!

2. Where The Night Owls Go – Mykonos

If you’re a nut for nightlife, Mykonos is the place for you. Nestled in the traditional architecture and gorgeous beaches, you’ll find bars and clubs a-plenty in Chora, the capital of the island. But it doesn’t lack tranquillity, as the beaches will be calling your name too. Rest that hangover with the sun beating on your back – there’s no better way to cure a hangover, of course!

3. Good Things Come In Small Packages – Elafonissos

Although tiny, Elafonissos certainly makes up for it in beauty. Unwind in the sunshine with a cocktail in hand, without the hustle and bustle of tourists. There are lots of restaurants to pick from too, where you can sample the local delicacies. Treat yourself this summer, with wine and yummy food. There, that should be enough to convince you!

4. Sunsets, Sand and… – Santorini

White washed buildings, blue skies and spectacular scenery are what might come to mind when you think ‘Greece holidays’. If that’s so, Santorini is somewhere that will not fail to impress. Wind your way through the untouched streets of Megalochori and enjoy a glass of wine in its traditional square. Or journey to Imerovigli, renowned for its sunset viewing points. The town is based on a cliff and is the idyllic spot to escape from all your troubles.

5. All In One Place – Crete

The largest of all the Greek Islands, Crete is the one to visit if you’re looking for the full Greek experience. Witness the silky dunes and beautiful blue stretches of sea one day, climb rocky peaks the next, and maybe throw in a delicious Greek dish or two to keep your energy levels up. Crete has it all, without losing the traditional Greek feel, as it’s packed with magnificent archaeology and architecture that will impress even the experienced traveller.

So, what’s it to be – tranquil escape, eating delectable Greek food or an adventure experience? Either way, you’re sure to be mesmerized by the beauty of the Greek Islands. Room for one more in your suitcase?

  4. One of the countries I definitely want to revisit, especially one of the islands. Last time I was there I stayed in Parga on the mainland and it was absolutely idyllic, a beautiful place from which I have real fond memories. But I always hear about the islands and how amazing they are, so got to go and find out for myself. Especially now I have had another reminder from your photos and writing.
